bima digital day

Yesterday was BIMA Digital Day 2023 and Econsultancy headed to Queens Park Community School in North West London, to give students an insight into the variety of careers in digital.

The initiative, now in its 12th year, sees 11-16 year olds compete in a sponsored, nationwide digital challenge for a chance to win individual prizes, as well as £500 cash for their school. Econsultancy was one of over 200 organisations and agencies matched to a school in order to offer digital expertise and bring the industry to life.

BIMA Digital Day comes as many are debating the future of work, and as the digital skills gap, identified over the last decade, continues to pose a threat to growth. According to Econsultancy’s own 2023 research, 57% of professionals say digital skills need adding or updating at least on a monthly basis.

A survey published earlier this year by BIMA demonstrated the value of showcasing the industry to secondary school students, 3 in 10 of whom said a lack of knowledge meant they weren’t previously interested in a career in digital. Female students in particular have been inspired by Digital Day, with 43% post-event saying they would now consider a career in this space, up from 16% pre-event.

I was blown away by the creativity, resourcefulness and teamwork that the Queens Park Community School students showed.

– Paul Davies, Managing Partner, Econsultancy

Paul Davies, Managing Partner, said, “I was delighted to support BIMA Digital Day 23 on behalf of Econsultancy. We know that most young people get exposed to careers that their parents work in and as the famous saying goes ‘you can’t be what you can’t see’. This initiative is an important way of showcasing the amazing variety of roles that are available in digital to our next generation of talent.”

This year, BIMA Digital Day was sponsored by EPAM Systems, with the challenge for students being issued by Vue Entertainment.

Davies added, “I was blown away by the creativity, resourcefulness and teamwork that the Queens Park Community School students showed. They responded to a brief from Vue Cinemas and turned around some amazing digital solutions in only one day.”
