Meet Raja Subramaniam, Head of Data Sciences and AI, InMobi Commerce. Raja talks to us about how artificial intelligence (AI) forms the core of InMobi Commerce and many more insights about his team and their operations.
What makes working with the InMobi Commerce team exciting?
What excites me most about InMobi Commerce is the AI-first vision, but more importantly, the fact that I get to work with some of the best minds in the retail media space. We obsessively look at each problem through an AI lens. The whole product has been built from the ground up with an AI-first approach, leveraging AI in every feasible way from automatic targeting and smart bidder to campaign optimization and intelligent suggestions.
Besides that, there is also the fact that we are still in a nascent stage and hence there is a huge scope for making our system better by pushing our limits in each of the components in every dimension. Moreover, there are a lot of open challenges like maximizing the welfare of the advertiser, automatically generative video and image creatives for the long tail advertisers, privacy-preserving personalized ads for consumers, and new ad experiences like augmented reality and virtual try-ons.
What would you describe as the mission of the team?
The mission of the team is to help the three personas in the retail media space – shoppers, retailers, and advertisers – in the best way possible. The shoppers get to discover the most relevant products, the retailers generate more dollars through the retail media programs, and the advertisers get the best return on their ad investments.
How is AI helping InMobi Commerce achieve this mission?
AI lies at the core of all that we do as a team. When shoppers are searching for a product on retailer sites, our Semantic model helps in find the product based on their search term and retailer catalogue. An ensemble of the Semantic model and deep image similarity model, suggests similar products to the shoppers. We help retailers solve for scale and efficiency and serve a broad spectrum of advertisers.
Through our AI-powered autonomous campaigns, we help long-tail advertisers with limited resources and expertise to run successful campaigns by choosing what product to promote, their ad budget, and the campaign objective. For high-touch advertising agencies, our AI-assisted campaigns enable the experts to make informed decisions through forecasting, intelligent insights, and smart suggestions thereby reducing the operational cost of running a successful retail media program for our retailers.
Speaking of advertisers, we help them get the best ROI by assisting them in their journey during the planning and execution stages. Our AI-powered autonomous systems built-in with auto-targeting and smart bidder capabilities, help improve the effectiveness of these campaigns by continuously monitoring their performance and taking corrective actions to keep them on track with the objectives.
