In an interview with Marketing Week, Sky Sports marketing director Dave Stratton discusses the impact the business’ focus on training and development has had on the work its marketers are producing, including its latest campaign, made in-house with Sky Creative.
Sky Sports’ glossy start-of-season campaign, ‘The Greatest Show on Earth’, showcases its wealth of sports coverage, including tennis, cricket and golf, and features stars such as Jack Grealish and Lauren James, alongside actor Idris Elba as circus ringmaster.
“It’s obvious when you look at the campaign there’s been significant investment from the business,” says Stratton, telling Marketing Week the latest campaign “shows that off the back of the Marketing Excellence Programme, when we do bold work which is going to look to cut through, the business will invest in it”.
Econsultancy helped to design and deploy the Sky Academy of Marketing training course, one pillar of the overall Marketing Excellence Programme, which won the Employee Engagement and Experience Award at this year’s The Marketing Society Awards.
“It’s great that our senior leadership team are really backing the programme and investing in it,” says Stratton. “These are tough times at the moment, so it’s even more impressive that the business is backing marketing, training and development when every pound matters.”
